1 Church in Multiple Locations

We began last year challenging ourselves as a body to follow the vision that God had given us to become a church in multiple locations. We did not realize how quickly that would come to fruition. God began to call people from our church to go and plant their life and their family  in other locations around the globe to see God’s glory revealed in places where a true picture of Biblical community is not understood.

In January 2010 a group of families and singles will begin training in Atlanta, GA in preparation to move to Bangkok, Thailand for the purpose of planting a church. Another group of people are beginning to meet regularly in preparation for moving to Brussels, Belgium to plant a reproducing sending church for French speaking people of Belgium. Wow…this has happened quickly in our body.

Last evening our church voted unanimously to receive another church in our area into our body and accept all of their property and liabilities for the purpose of uniting to spread the fame of God in Middle Tennessee. The former Stonebrook Church will officially become LifePoint Church on July 1, 2009. God lead the members of Stonebrook to unanimously dissolve and become a LifePoint campus. It is going to be an incredible sight for a lost community to see two churches become one for the Glory of God.

In less than one year God has lead LifePoint Church to move from 1 campus in 1 location to 4 campuses in 4 different locations. We are asking God to give wisdom for next step in the journey and to raise up new leaders for His kingdom enterprise.

We want you to join us in this prayer and get involved in leading out.

The Whole Story

How Did This Happen

WOW, is all I can say.

It was sometime near the end of the summer in 2007 that I first began to take notice that Belgium was crossing my radar a lot. At first it seemed like a coincidence the number of times this country kept popping up and then I remembered, “I don’t believe in coincidences.” I asked the Lord, “Are you trying to get my attention?”

There have been other times when I began to recognize God was doing something different in my life and in those times I began to journal and listen. By listening I mean that I read the Word each morning with eyes that were open more to what God might be trying to reveal. I held this stirring close and didn’t reveal it to anyone at that time. I am a person that waits, seeks, listens, and looks for confirmation before talking. I don’t mean to be closed, I just process different than others.

In October of 2007, our pastor, Pat Hood called our staff team together to tell us it was time for our local body to come together to fast and pray. The last Sacred Gathering we had at LifePoint was in March of 2004 and was a pivotal point in the life of the church. God used that time of seeking to launch the church into His global mission around the world. It was an incredible time together with around nine (9) people called to vocational mission service. When Pat told us this would be coming I continued to journal and seek wisdom from God on what He was doing in my life concerning the country of Belgium.

I really didn’t know much about Belgium…waffles, chocolate, capital of the European Union, and N.A.T.O. headquarters were located in this small country in West Europe. But as to it’s actual location I had to find a map and get my bearings straight.

In March of 2008 on the Sunday the Sacred Gathering was to begin Pat asked all the ministry staff to meet in his office to pray together before the start of the evening gathering time. As we meet Pat told us he expected great things from the Lord and that we needed to be ready for what God was going to do that week. He asked each of us to put our “Yes” on the table before the Lord. Whatever the Lord wanted of us as a body we needed to be ready to obey and as leaders of the church we needed to go first. That evening I laid my “Yes” on the altar before God and said whatever went on that week and however He spoke I was saying yes.

At the end of the three (3) days of prayer and fasting as a body God once again showed us clearly as a church that we were to be about His global plan of mission. His mission had to be the life blood of the church. It was after the Sacred Gathering that I had my first meeting with Pat to talk with Him about how God was stirring in my heart about Belgium.

It was from the end of the summer in 2007 through March of 2008 that God was molding and shaping me (not that He has stopped). It was through His Word, through prayer, and through my personal study of mission training that He made my heart more soft to His working. It seemed like each week Pat was preaching something that applied directly to what God was doing in my heart and my life. The messages weren’t centered on missions necessarily, but God used what Pat was teaching to speak very clearly to keep walking and moving in the direction He was leading.

Books – #4 & #5

In my quest for 50 in ’09 I have just finished in the past week a book I started over the holiday period and one I purchased in preparation for my trip to Belgium.

#4 – The Shack by William Paul Young

I am not a fan overall of The Shack. I can appreciate what the author is trying to convey about God’s love, the Trinity’s relationship and how that is vital to moving us through tragedy in our lives. I think Young has done a huge disservice to his readers by misrepresenting the Bible’s picture of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I understand that the story is fiction but he leads the undiscerning reader away from what the orthodox Christian view of the doctrine of the Trinity. Though I am in the minority (millions have sold, NY Times Bestseller) I cannot in good conscience recommend this book.

#5 Belgium by Michael Burgan

This is a book out of the Enchantment of the World series. It is along the lines of an expanded encyclopedia. It has 144 pages of text, pictures and very good information about Belgian lifestyles. It has furthered my curiosity of what our team will see and learn when we travel in March.

I hope you are reading something worthwhile.

Books Finished – #1, #2, #3

I have a goal of reading 50 books this year. Huge for me…I like to read but this is more than I have ever read in a year. Well I have completed a few. I will give you a small description and something from the publisher if it is available so you can know more about the books.

#2   God’s Continent, Christianity, Islam, and Europe’s Religious Crisis by Philip Jenkins

This book examines the present state of religion in Western Europe and how it happened. I found the book to be an interesting read.

Product description from christianbooks.com - What does the future hold for European Christianity? Is the Christian church doomed to collapse under the weight of globalization, Western secularism, and a flood of Muslim immigrants? Is Europe, in short, on the brink of becoming “Eurabia”?

#3 Crazy Love, Overwhelmed by a Relentless God by Francis Chan

I have enjoyed this book a lot. It is a very easy read but has caused me to evaluate my walk with God. Chan is a frequent speaker on the Passion Tours with Louie Giglio and Chris Tomlin. This is a good read for students and adults. Chan Pastors a church in California, Cornerstone Church.

If you have made a commitment to follow Christ, then read “Crazy Love” to be reminded and challenged in your walk. Sharing from his own life struggles and sacrifices, author Francis Chan issues a call for selfless, Christ-like living. Let the love you have received from God impact your life like never before.
